I am playing a headline live set at the Electronic Music Open Mic (EMOM) Manchester Fuel Cafe Bar tomorrow, Monday, March 4th, 7.30 pm. Thank you Gary Fisher Gary Fisher for bringing the EMOM back to Manchester.

There must be a future where the two can recognise their need for each other, their symbiosis: we need brilliance to help us want to begin and battle through the struggle of making anything, and without this grassroots growth and resilience we will have no brilliance. Fund art.

Equally, if you allow the 'fancy expensive bits' to stagnate and become cut off from the reality of contemporary human struggle by flourishing while everyone at the grassroots suffocates then you lose the core of art, the pathway to art, and the future of the art form.

Art is not luxury. It is community, expression, empathy, a mirror, a path through conflict. Creativity is intrinsic to all humans. If you defund the 'fancy expensive bits' then you defund aspiration, inspiration, you defund leaders, you defund careers, you defund lives.
