I think I've figured it out.

#TwitterX is a psychological experiment to see how long lingering loyalty is enough for users in the face of counterintuitive & nonsensical changes on a social media platform.

I can't help but wonder if this is all just some narcissistic tantrum where someone's gotten under Elon's skin and he's paid $44 billion to try and make Twitter that person's version of private hell. Because it's about the only way any of this makes sense.
