I’m tweeting for the first time in a LONG time…for anyone still following me, please let me introduce you to Thrive Music Education 🎉🎵🙌

My dream, for so long, has been to start my own music school. Teaching music is what I do best - so now it’s time! 🎉🙌

So many teachers are not okay, but, because they keep showing up, keep smiling and keep quiet— everyone thinks they are just fine.

Leaving teaching, telling my story, sharing my thoughts etc have been part of my journey towards my Now. All needed for healing, but I don’t necessarily have to continue to carry that energy into my (healed) future. So Twitter, it’s goodbye from Emily Dalzell 🙏

Making decisions as an Autistic ADHD’er is like:

My autism: I need time to think about this - let’s wait.

My ADHD: *makes impulsive decision seconds later*.

or

My ADHD: sure, that sounds great, let’s do it!

My Autism: *seconds later regrets saying yes and tries to back out*.

I had to describe my AuDHD child's school masking to a psychologist yesterday and I came up with a pretty efficient analogy. At school she is beautiful origami. Everybody loves to look at the origami, and marvel at how pleasant it is, but nobody thinks about the complicated...1/4

To my beautiful friend 🤍 this day will never get any easier but you will always be remembered and I’d like to take the opportunity today to remind people that kind words are priceless and to be supportive of all other people in this world and to care and to love costs nothing.

I’m proud to be able to tick each one of these - it’s taken a LOT of work and lots more to go (as healing is never linear), but this is a great thread.

I’m a brilliantly terrible friend. I haven’t mastered the art yet - I can’t maintain friendships well at all. Once a long time has passed since speaking I assume “they don’t want to hear from me”, plus it’s embarrassing and exhausting having to constantly apologise.

- A number of ADHD’ers experience object permanence: out of sight, out of mind. We can love a person, thing or experience and then completely forget about it if we take a step back from it or don’t cross paths with it for a while. This isn’t deliberate.

Schools should get these just the way they did with Marcus Rashford’s book (and don’t just give it to the girls to read!)
