This just dropped in India's inequality debate. 💥

Bharti, Chancel, Pikettty, and Somanchi tear apart the recent inequality deniers' takes, including that by India's chief economic officer, Nageshwaran and Bishtt, and the common culprits Bhalla and Bhasin, to bits.

Inequality in the UK is overwhelmingly *within* generations, not between them. .

Not about old vs young/'privileged boomers', but income and wealth inequality.

(As I've been saying for last decade..)

According to the ACLS, 1,100 people applied for the 60 awards from their single remaining fellowship program for general humanities research. Applications were restricted to early career untenured PhDs. Clear evidence that there isn't enough humanities research funding available.

It is also worth noting that Kuznets was one of early economists (perhaps b/c he was also a demographer) who argued that understanding social phenomena like inequality requires inclusion of politics, sociology, even psychology etc. That was totally forgotten afterwords.
