Ever wonder what a bat researcher carries into the field?

Rohit Chakravarty's toolkit includes field guides, headlamps and flashlights, bat detectors, a camera, GPS, vernier calipers and a spring balance, nets and, of course, gloves to keep him protected from bitey bats.

'I feel that bats have made me realise the benefits of choosing a less-trodden path. There are so few people who study bats in India that anything I, or other bat researchers do, turns out to be new.' Bat researcher Rohit Chakravarty.

New preprint! 🙌 An independent exploratory work which revealed an interesting pattern.

The most special bird sighting of the Costa Rica trip. She let us walk so close that I had to start zooming out to fill her fully in the frame. Along with her mate, she dueted into the golden dusk as we watched them for ten full minutes.

A Yellow-throated Toucan , completely unperturbed by my presence, drinks water that is accumulated in a tree hole.
