I was laid off today at the Los Angeles Times. I'm really proud to have been part of the DC bureau and to have worked with so many dedicated and talented journalists - both in DC and LA - some who are among the more than 100 who received the same news today.

Erin is an inspiration to me, a Gen Xer child of immigrants who was taught to just keep her head down and not make waves. Her actions helped me find my voice and stand up for myself and my colleagues. This is an incredible loss for Los Angeles Times. I can’t help but cry.

Solidarity with my L.A. Times Guild 🦅 colleagues from 25-degree Boston, where I’m on a reporting trip and don’t know if I’ll have a job by the time I get home.

Those reporting on layoffs at LAT, I encourage you to resist the false dichotomy bw reporters and other journalists—copy editors, photogs, audio producers, librarians, etc. In a 2023 newsroom, there's no such thing as support staff. These are all vital organs being amputated.

Journalists depend on organizations like NAHJ, Asian American Journalists LA and Society of Professional Journalists to lead journalism toward a more community-oriented, morally accountable future.
