It was so great to participate in this event, and learn about what some of my fellow inclusive teaching colleagues have been up to in their classrooms!

As a BU faculty member, I am very much against any policy that means a bad grade in my course could lead to a student losing their housing. Students are already stressed enough about grades and this policy pushes students to focus on grades over learning and improvement.

Ron DeSantis faces challenges beyond a glitchy Twitter announcement. Lacking charisma and populist rhetoric, he must navigate a landscape shaped by Trump's grassroots connection, says BU Arts & Sciences' populism scholar Rachel Meade. spr.ly/6017OoP9f

Some thoughts on DeSantis and populism for the BU press. Between the technology mess, wooden & jargony speech, and preselected questions from supporters, the Twitter Spaces launch illustrates DeSantis' challenges at capturing a populist appeal. bu.edu/articles/2023/…

Matt Shearer's 'person on the street' interviews highlight the mundane but delightful opinions of ordinary new englanders about non-political things (IE walking speeds, dunkin' donuts) that he nonetheless treats with the utmost respect. A perfect antidote to polarizing media.

As a Lecturer who relies on grad teaching assistants, I can attest to their hard work and how integral they are to the teaching mission. After seeing the results of Brown’s successful grad unionization in increased stipend etc., I hope for the same for BU grad workers!

This is so outrageous what international scholars are having to go through to try to attend this year’s APSA. APSA, can you do anything to compensate our colleagues for these costs?

Looking forward to tomorrrow's zoom/ in person discussion with a transnational group of scholars to discuss resistance to autocratic legalism (when democratically elected leaders undermine liberal democratic institutions). Kim Lane Scheppele Raquel Pimenta @bojanbugarik Rob Yablon

Agreed, so much fantastic comparative work and methodological and conceptual innovation, the populism field needs to be paying way more attention to the great work and case studies out of Latin America!

One of my students got in a car accident driving to campus this morning. Thankfully they are okay. But I'm frustrated that Boston University chose to put commuting students, faculty, and staff in a dangerous situation, given the forecast discouraging unnecessary travel.

Just voted in participatory budgeting in Cambridge, most fun time I have ever had voting (getting to choose among various cool community projects, its like coffee shop token jars but more impactful)! Cambridge residents can vote through Dec. 12- bu.edu/reg/files/2020…

Polling data isn’t dispositive of political strategy. We should assume (1) hegemonic ideology inflects ordinary people’s world views (2) those world views are contradictory; tensions within them are organizing opportunities (3) shifts in mass consciousness are absolutely possible

Teaching to a roomful of students after a year of hybrid makes me feel like I have suddenly gained superpowers of attentiveness, focus, and technological prowess.

I’m my experience also, teaching and research go hand in hand. I first realized Joe Biden’s populist characteristics after reading a student’s analysis. All my best recent research ideas have come from class discussions and close readings I prepared for my students.
