I use a unique password for my Zoom account. Yet they claim I have to reset my password cos they found it compromised elsewhere. This can only mean 1) @zoom was compromised 2) they are bullshitting and it’s security theatre.

+1 Unlimited vacation is definitely overrated. Most folks end up not using any of it and zero cash out benefits don't help either. Its good for the company but not for the employee.

Still digesting this great 2014 piece by Robert Smallshire - this intro line got me:

'legacy software systems are those which have proven to be valuable over time. The reason they become legacy – and get old – is because they continue to be useful.'

School sends like 40+ photos a day of the kids, omg total DOS on the poor WhatsApp group and phone storage.

Latvians, once again, surprising me with their efficiency. Building permit approved in 2 weeks. 2 weeks that included xmas and new year.

Easy to deploy applications are table stakes. Easy to secure and manage data is the new north star.

Applications only exist to process and create experiences around data, and if a platform wants to set itself apart from the others, focus on the data.

The excitement surrounding Wasm will lead to another resurgence of PaaS platforms. The best will offer support for production data; not just key/value stores. I'm talking message queues, SQL databases, and object stores.

It's gotta be the hard stuff as a service going forward.

For the past week or two I've been using ChatGPT to generate sexy stories. It's amazing and I'm hooked. It's the thing that I think about the most every day. I think I have an AI porn addiction.

Had a HDD fail, Hetzner replaced it in sub 30 minutes. I think that’s faster than Azure sometimes take to boot a new instance.

Is it really that much to add for “go get” to not just hang for 20 minutes with no ability to get any logs or anything out of it?

Go modules continue to be a massive own-goal even after years.
