Why are we asked to sympathize with a developer when a tenant holds pricing power?

It's because a tenant finally has the advantage.

If a developer wants to build, then they should follow the market and negotiate a price, not cry about it in media.

And that is what we call a no-win scenario for the homeless advocates in .

They either blindly put their name on a registry for zero meaningful gain or don't and risk undercutting their advocacy with politicos and of course, twitter peeps (Ex A: story comments).

Like any actor, the media and its owners have interests that influence their actions, including why certain stories get published.

It's why relationships between power and the press should always be scrutinized.

Pretty much everything Doug Ford just said about the Greenbelt at the presser just now is false or misleading. Quick fact checking thread.

Don’t be distracted too much by John Tory, you’ll miss Doug giving away the to his ‘longtime Ford friends’. They all got positions on public board of directors too.

For every zoom hearing that I attend there is at least one technical difficulty that pops up. Even still, stands alone in my heart.

First past the post incentivizes parties to call early elections as soon as polling shows a 35-40% majority is within reach.

Proportional representation incentivizes parties to work together because no matter what they can't get a majority unless they get 50% or higher.

US women will die because a gun ban for those with restraining orders violates the 2nd amendment

Why? There is no analogous law from the 1700s to support such a restriction today. There was a law that disarmed black and indigenous folks but that's different

So why actually?

A broken system is seeing thoughtful people very clearly identify with the principles and values of the other guy while still taking outrageous steps to show party loyalty.

Our system can be better.

Imagine me saying to a septic, heart attack or stroke patient they can only come into hospital if they add an extra 3 days in our luxury hotel suite, at their expense. Visa or Amex accepted, but not your OHIP.

Saving requires a committed federal government as much as anyone else.

Right now, while the feds negotiate a new funding agreement is the time to insist on changes.

To save public healthcare, the feds need to step up.

No matter how you lean politically, Canadians need to loudly stand against Doug Ford’s plans to reward his wealthy and well-connected friends by privatizing our universal healthcare! 🇨🇦
