Tiger Woods, looking less fluid today, makes 2 bogeys in restart of Rd. 1 for +1 (73) with projected cut +2. Not much wiggle room to break tie with Gary Player & Fred Couples at 23 for consecutive The Masters cuts made. Tiger back out at 10:18, less than hour after ending Rd. 1.

As the brilliant VISION54 coaches Lynn Marriott and Pia Nilsson say: “Pay attention to your intention.” As you watch The Masters listen to how caddies make their player verbalize their plan for the shot. It locks in commitment.

Friday June 17 1994, I covered US Open at Oakmont for The Associated Press as Arnold Palmer missed cut in last Open & was too sad to talk to media. In my hotel I watched O.J. Bronco chase on split screen with NBA Finals. Hotel at Monroeville Mall, setting for George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead.

Tiger Woods will have to finish 5 holes of Rd. 1 Friday morning then after a quick turnaround play Rd. 2. Walking 23 holes on hilly ANGC in one day will be a real test for his surgically repaired 48-year-old body. He played solid and smart on Thursday to be 1 under par.

I love that Augusta National started using drone cameras at The Masters The aerial shots are very cool and really help give a sense of the contours of the course. And really, just its overall beauty.

Among the many cool things about The Masters is that spectators are watching the play with their eyes and not through their IPhones. As a journalist, the no-cell-phones policy is an inconvenience. But it does create a great atmosphere. A tradition unlike any other.

With today's O.J. Simpson news, I'm reminded of Larry David's comments in an interview Larry did with Bill Scheft (Golf Digest, October 2015):

So nice to hear voice of Gary Williams on PGA Tour Radio SiriusXM channel 92 from The Masters As articulate & knowledgeable as they get. Right now start of play pushed back 2 1/2 hours. Ceremonial opening tee shots with Nicklaus, Player, Watson 10:10 ET. First group 10:30.

.@ESPN says South Carolina-Iowa Women’s Final averaged 18.7 million viewers & peaked at 24 million. That’s most for any hoops game (men or women, college or pro) since 2019. Men who once wouldn’t dream of watching women’s sports are now tuning in. Their daughters changed them.

On April 7, 1994 Hutu in Rwanda began genocide killing 800,000 mostly Tutsi in 100 days. Rwanda marks anniversary with a week of mourning. Here’s my story for Golf World in 2007 after 2 weeks in Rwanda with 6 LPGA players and Betsy King’s Golf Fore Africa.

Spencer Strider, Shane Bieber, Jonathan Loaisiga latest pitchers to blow out arms. When will coaches realize the “throw as hard as you can for as long as you can” philosophy pushed by analytics is not a good thing. Pitchers used to know how to conserve energy to go 9 innings.

My first Masters was Sandy Lyle 7-iron out of the bunker to birdie No. 18 in 1988. Not only does the Masters never let you down, neither does the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Great 66 by Bailey Shoemaker topped by Lottie Woad birdie-birdie finish an hour later!
