In 2021, Walk Bike Berkeley , East Bay Transit Riders Union, and Bike East Bay worked with Mayor Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin, and Councilmembers Rashi Kesarwani and Terry Taplin🚰🏳️‍🌈🥑🌹🚲🚍✍️🏾 to secure a commitment from ACTC to extend bike and bus lanes into South Berkeley.

We are heartbroken for the victim of this traumatic collision on San Pablo yesterday.

Safety improvements cannot come soon enough along this high injury street!🧵

My heart breaks for the cyclist who suffered a life-altering injury at the hands of a motorist.

I live car-free in West Berkeley. I bike on San Pablo. It should be safe enough for everyone to do so. I remain ironclad in my resolve to put safety before parking on Berkeley roads.

Warren J. Wells, AICP 🚴🏙️🦀 The fire chief is trying to get funding for a Street Trauma Prevention program which would apply the same approach that FDs take to preventing fires to preventing street trauma.

Happily, the Berkeley fire chief understands this, and the department is both acknowledging that traffic violence takes up a large share of its resources, and that the FD has a role to play in reducing street trauma.
