I just got Carol Atherton's Reading Lessons from Newham Bookshop. It's an inspiring start, talking about the impact books have as young people construct & reconstruct their identities. In primary, I think the books communally shared as read-alouds can have similar lasting power.

Cannot wait for this. Bumble & Snug is so popular in my class (and my whole school).

The more I read of Steady For This by Nathanael Lessore, the more it's reminding me of There's A Boy in the Girl's Bathroom by Louis Sachar. It has the more obvious character & thematic parallels but also balances emotional weight & hide-behind-your-hands humour just as masterfully.

So, this is hilarious so far, but I'm only on page 25 after 2 days of reading because I keep having to close the book out of overwhelming, gut-wringing embarrassment at what the main character is doing 😂

This morning I decided to a very quick count of the students who used the #library from when I opened (7:15 am) to 8 am. Well over 200, which is a reminder of the importance of #school #libraries & how many kids rely on them on a daily basis.

It's been too busy a break to manage much reading, but all 3 books I've read are ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. A Whole Life made me think & think, Crossing the Line felt so immediate & true & Away With Words is one every Y6 classroom should have - just my kind of book & great as a transition text.
