I want to add to this thanks and say how proud I am of the Dignity in Dying team who worked so hard and seamlessly on Monday. You are magnificent. 👏👏👏
The results are in: #BufferZones legislation has passed a stage-one vote. And it's a landslide. 123 votes in favour, one against, no abstentions.
100% agree with this Dignity in Dying Really important debate. Hope and trust it will lead to progress. Sorry not to have been there. I will be next time.

The assisted dying debate gave Dame Esther Rantzen and her daughter Rebecca hope that “compassionate common sense could prevail and a change in the law might come about” thanks to the 200,000 who backed a Daily Express Dignity in Dying petition.

We need more funding for palliative care but even best care can’t help everyone. So we also need a strictly safeguarded law on #AssistedDying to give dying people choice in their last days. The Green Party manifesto will back a change in the law - I hope other parties will too
