More directly relevant, perhaps: that's enough to pay SocArXiv's annual bill to Center for Open Science: hosting 15000 papers and publishing 2500 new ones per year.

'Addressing Measurement Errors in Ranking Questions for Social Sciences'

From Yuki Atsusaka and Seo-young Silvia Kim

A great example of a methods paper that combines statistical theory and empirical data to develop best practices for design.

SocArXiv version: doi.org/10.31219/osf.i…

In light of the OMB's recent decision to adopt a combined race and ethnicity question, I'd like to share findings from an upcoming article I co-authored ('Black and Some Other Race') about the codification of Black Latinos in the 2020 census. In preprint with SocArXiv

The lack of gold open access offerings by US university presses is actually a good thing as it allows you to negotiate green (repository) access as part of your book contract. I have advised plenty of academics on this and it's almost always fine with the publisher.

I along with others human-moderate SocArXiv. Not saying we have caught all AI-generated documents but we are watching out for them. It has become something of a burden to try to catch the fake papers and the inflated reference lists.

Survey on preprint use. Question for social scientists: Have computer science, math, physics, and astronomy gotten weaker or stronger from posting preprints for decades?

The study, posted on the preprint database SocArXiv ... examined whether the type and number of citations changed depending on whether Democrats or Republicans controlled the chamber and hence each committee. Science Magazine: science.org/content/articl…

Papers on SocArXiv get DOIs, and become part of the scholarly record. We don't corrupt the record and create dead links for that. Authors should be aware of our withdrawal policy before they post: socopen.org/2019/05/26/soc…

We can't have a peer review system based on anonymity and a sharing culture where people talk to each other openly about their research. We have to choose between them.

At SocArXiv sometimes people who post papers, and lots of people read them, and then they ask us to take them down because a journal or editor wants anonymous review. We don't accept those withdrawal requests.

This paper from ⁦AllofUsResearch⁩ needs to be retracted by @nature immediately. Under pretext of inclusivity it features a scientifically invalid representation of genetic diversity and race that is going to feature in racist literature for decades. nature.com/articles/s4158…

Does immigrant educational selectivity explain their children’s better health at birth in Spain? Yes: but only for low birth weight and certain origin groups.

🆕 'The Data Availability Policies of Political Science Journals' is on SocArXiv

1️⃣ 20% of political science journals require sharing data.

2️⃣We should remain mindful of the effectiveness and rarity of requiring data sharing.
