British-American astronaut Piers Sellers was born #OnThisDay in 1955 in Sussex. 👨🏻‍🚀

We are fortunate to exhibit objects from his incredible career, including a flightsuit and flight helmet that he wore whilst flying a NASA Northrop T-38 Talon jet aircraft. ✈️

#OnThisDay in 1959, the first NASA astronauts were revealed. 🚀

Known as the Mercury Seven, the men selected were Alan Shepherd, Gus Grissom, Gordon Cooper, Wally Schirra, Deke Slayton, John Glenn and Scott Carpenter.

All of the men would reach space by 1975.
