On This day in 1990 the space shuttle, Discovery brought the Hubble Space Telescope into space and released it into orbit the next day. This started the amazing journey of it taking sharp pictures of planets, stars and galaxies-some which are even light years away!

Every year on April 22nd we celebrate Earth Day to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our planet. This year we worked with Environmental Health Promotion students @WesternUniversity to prototype solutions to increasing pollinators and solving food security issues.

Rainbows are created when light is bent (refracted) when it enters a water droplet. The light gets split into different colours and gets reflected back showing a pretty rainbow! Rainbows often appear after storms and represent peace in many cultures.

Learning for community impact is what our SHSM’s are all about. This week students from WCI Red Devil learned how to prototype ideas to help Canadian newcomers build English skills through theatre during their I.C.E. Training. Thames Valley DSB ExperienceTVDSB #designthinking

Today’s Hubble Highlight is Globular Cluster M79. This cluster is 41,000 light-years from earth. The cluster is only 118 light-years across but contains around 150,000 stars, some being the oldest in our galaxy!

How do planes fly? Lift: wings push air down so the air pushes the wing up. Weight: staying balanced due to even weight distribution. Thrust: force of propellers or jet engines. Drag: planes have minimal drag because they’re designed to let air pass.
