#FreeIuventa
Solidarity with iuventa-crew and all those facing criminalisation for assisting people on the move ✊
Just landed in Malta as a member of the Coalition for the El Hiblu 3 campaign. Yesterday, only a few miles from here, a girl and eight adults drowned in yet another shipwreck. Meanwhile, in Brussels, a migration pact was agreed that makes these atrocities even more likely in the future.
So depressing to hear Ursula von der Leyen saying that with the #EU #MigrationPact politics has delivered what people have been asking. I refuse to believe Europeans were asking for massive detention of people at our borders. #NotMyEurope
The #EUMigrationPact is a triumph of myopic border security theatre that will reward smugglers and punish migrants, passed by politicians too weak to stand up against intolerance, too callous to insist upon dignity, and too incurious to understand how and why migration happens
#France has failed to take measures to end pervasive #racial #profiling by 🇫🇷 police.
HRW en français, #Pazapas Belleville, #MCDS , #REAJI & Amnesty International France filed a communication before the UN’s anti-racism body alleging 🇫🇷 is violating its int’l obligations.🧵

The #MigrationPact is now set to become law.
But as human rights people, we’ll continue to fight its implementation and the violence it carries with it. And we'll continue to work for a welcoming Europe for all.
The European Parliament vote today in favor of the Migration and Asylum Pact represents in a new low for the EU. How can anyone take seriously EU pledges on human rights when it celebrates denying people asylum, endorsing pushbacks, locking people up, and shirking its responsibilities?
🧵 European Parliament has approved the new Migration and Asylum Pact.
👉We consistently opposed it and will continue to work to promote the rights of refugees and migrants in Europe.
👉Monitoring, guidance, and legal challenges will now be pivotal.
It's not too late! The European Parliament can still vote down a #MigrationPact that eviscerates the right to asylum & increases detention. Human Rights Watch joins 160 other orgs in call to MEPS to #StopThisPact . Read more here: picum.org/blog/81-civil-…
