The Society of Authors officially opposed a resolution calling for a statement in favour of a permanent ceasefire because they say it's outside their remit to be political? No. Opposing the motion IS political.

We should all feel sick that this resolution didn't pass.

It is not lost on me that the only Pulitzer Prize winning poets speaking on Palestine, Columbia, and the violent suppression of students are Jericho Brown, a queer Black man teaching at Emory, and Natalie Diaz, a queer Indigenous woman teaching at ASU. Where are the rest of you?

The hatred of the Columbia administration for its students is breathtaking. #StopGazaGenocideNOW

And I don’t care if these peers never “give me a prize” ever again. We live in an unceded and occupied country. Natives know what the US and orgs like PEN are doing in this land and abroad to support genocide. Then real bs is that we can turn to US poets in times of genocide.

Disturbing how The New York Times chooses to amplify the antisemitism of individual isolated students rather than report how many of the protests are Jewish and are led by Jewish organizations who don’t want a genocide to happen under their name…

The problem with PEN America is that they CAN express full solidarity & HAVE. They’ve done it before, condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with their whole chest. Palestine is just the blaring exception. You can’t pretend now to be an org above politics. You just can’t!
