Open Seas Local fisherman have known about this for years they've also been protecting them but I guess that doesn't fit your agenda 🤔

Open Seas I've been watching signs of these herring spawning yearly since I moved here 14 years ago
Hardly a mobile fishermen comes near.
Seasonal closure in place by local fisherman as a voluntary measure
Don't here you mentioning that though.......

The Ferret Oh what a surprise it's Our Seas AGAIN, a coalition of groups surviving on grants trying to put wealth creaters out of business as always. Many members of the coalition not coastal, not in Scotland and funded from outwith Scotland, time they were kicked into touch

This is why community ownership should be the default position.

Turning machair into ‘rainforest’ is madness IMO. A gimmick to attract clueless people who have money to burn.

William Mclean Fishing News Aye there have been meetings in the southwest too, wanting change based on out of date, incomplete science to appease ill informed eNGOs is disgraceful

Call4Fish M&S MSC in the UK Makes my blood boil. We’ve invested so much time, effort and money in a sustainable UK netted hake fishery right on our doorstep, with quality that surpasses anything imported.
Please tell us why you won’t use it M&S

The Ferret 'Industrial fishing' does not exist in Scotland's coastal area, you are being lied to and misled, making it seem like shoddy journalism. From the outside looking in it appears you are printing nonsense on behalf of remotely funded eNGOs because they 'support' you

The Fishing Daily They can ban local creel boats from their traditional grounds easily enough but say they can do nothing about non Scottish supercrabbers devastating inshore grounds after being banned from their own inshore grounds

The Fishing Daily My nephew moved his creels out of the box incase weather stops him getting them all shifted only for a Padstow supercrabber to plaster the box as he moved out, disgusting

Nick Underdown Aye there's a pattern ok,non productive grant dwellers trying to put productive employers out of business mostly based on misleading, inaccurate assumptions. Real Scottish food producing jobs threatened by groups which produce nothing but hot air & are funded from outwith Scotland

I find it hard to understand why a journal publishes papers where both the reviewers and editors are not experts in the field of study. All three are ecologists, while this is a paper about models of air-sea exchange of CO2. This hardly qualifies as 'peer-review'.

The Ferret Completely unbiased stories are required. It's pretty obvious OpenSeas must be a member organisation, their made up rubbish features frquently & actual rural coastal fishing communities get no right of reply. Unbelievable that 'stories' depend on paying the piper

Terry Jack Brian Open Seas I think One fisherman would probably still be here today if he had not been more or less forced to eventually sell his scallop boat and buy a creel boat after his local scallop fishing grounds had been closed by a bunch of eco warriors . The ultimate price of environmentalism
