We are very sorry to hear of the death of Sir Andrew Davis. A major musical figure at the Proms since 1968 and a favourite with audiences and musicians alike. His concerts will be remembered, and he will be greatly missed.

So very sad to hear Sir Andrew Davis has died. He was a very special conductor and a joy to work with - an opinion I know I share with all my BBC Singers colleagues. My generation grew up with him conducting the Last night of BBC Proms. Here’s the year he sang the speech. Hero.

Very sad to hear this news. I have so many happy memories of working with Sir Andrew at the BBC Proms in the 1990s. A great musician and a lovely man. Time to put on the slow movement of his BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus Elgar 2 in his memory. RIP.

One of my favourite #BBCProms memories of Sir Andrew Davis is the 2003 performance of La Voix Humaine in sweltering heat where Dame Felicity Lott’s burgundy gown & sweaty hug after the performance left a huge wine coloured stain on Sir Andrew’s sharkskin 🍷😂 >>
