I made a triple high net with ikea poles! Cost me about Β£100, for reference Dr. fiancΓ© is 190cm tall, the poles measure 840cm. For something I made myself, I am pretty happy with the result π Can send details if you want to replicate it! #birdringing

A belated thanks to all who helped with Abberton CES #birdringing this summer π. Nearly 600 birds processed. Plenty of juveniles. Pics here of pristine Sedge Warbler, Willow Warbler and Lesser Whitethroat from August π

A smaller cousin of our Great Bittern, these guys migrate between Africa and Southern Europe. They are moving northwards, however, and some individuals overshoot and end up in the UK.

I tried something different last night and went for a night time hike to a Cork mountaintop in simply shocking weather. But it was worth it - I confirmed the continued survival of red grouse at the site, managing to capture and ring this simply stunning adult male. #birdringing
A nice early winter ringing session today. Fairly quiet, but always special to catch some winter thrushes, and a tit flock added some variety.
Check out that rosy eyeshadow on the Long-tailed Tit, what a little stunner!
