Initially, closing up Gus' chest went well. His ECMO cannulas were safely relocated to his neck. He also received a successful bronchoscopy which helped open up his right lung soon after.

Today is another big day for us. Gus will have his chest closed up shortly. This involves closing his sternotomy and repositioning the cannulas for the ECMO circuit to his neck. We are once again waiting and praying.

I've put in 500 cannulas since starting anaesthetics training. Of these, 9.8% were under ultrasound guidance. I wonder how that compares to others? I feel I have a relatively low threshold for using US (to minimise number of attempts), but I may be wrong.
