The Walpole Wilderness Bioblitz 2023 is on again this spring. The Red-Flowering Gum (Corymbia ficifolia) is one of the most widely grown eucalyptus trees in the world but the ficifolia woodland is limited to a very small area of the WW and will be a focus of the blitz.

It's a ripper flowering-season for Corymbia ficifolia (WA red-flowering gum) planted in south-eastern Aust, probably due to an unusually mild and wet summer.

Corymbia ficifolia a mertyl originally from South WA.

In the late dry season, Corymbia disjuncta sheds its shady crown of big, bristly leaves, leaving a blank canvas for a spectacular flowering event.

Soon after, masses of fluffy cream flowers burst into life to adorn the otherwise bare limbs!
