been burning since 1923 in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, arrives into Portsmouth Port onboard Brittany Ferries ‘Galicia’ for the first time, with a flotilla of vessels sailing alongside escorting the flame into the harbour. #DDAY80

The soldiers landing on Normandy’s beaches in June 1944 were beacons of hope for a continent shrouded in darkness.

It was a privilege to light the torch of remembrance this morning ahead of #DDay80 .

The service of these brave veterans will not be forgotten.

The Canadian Remembrance Torch burned brightly at Beechwood National Military Cemetery following a Veterans Affairs Canada ceremony & a cadet-led Torch procession for D-Day's upcoming 80th anniversary, June 6th.

As part of our #DDay80 #LegacyofLiberation campaign this morning Director General of the CWGC passed the Torch of Commemoration to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who then passed it to D-Day Veteran Peter Kent. The Torch now travels around the UK before heading to France.

On each of 46 days leading to #DDay 80 , we remember one of 46 men of 47 (Royal Marine) Commando killed, drowned or mortally wounded in their #DDay mission Operation Aubery.

Today (D-23) we remember Sgt Denis HUGHES of #Hunslett #Leeds and #Rothwell #Yorkshire

Yesterday, Canadians gathered at BeechwoodCemetery to honour #SWW Veterans. They marked the upcoming 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, thanked all those who served and paid their respects to the fallen.
