The herder was fined and jailed. A transaction out of necessity for him, but the true culprit, the hunting outfitter, walked away. Snow leopards continue to be trophy hunted. Those who do it, hold power and money and walk away. Snow Leopard Network

Cameras set at the snow leopard kill also documented several scavengers, like ravens and foxes. This supports that snow leopards could be important keystone species providing food for many scavengers in this extreme environment. More research on this is needed.

We set a camera-trap at the kill site and recorded hundreds of images of snow leopard feeding. To our surprise, another snow leopard came to feed four days later. One of first observations of several snow leopards using the same kill. Can you spot the differences?

Fortunately the transaction is intercepted and is taken to a remote conservancy camp in the Pamirs where she slowly recovers. We remove the leg hold trap chain that is still wrapped around her leg. She is terrified. Snow Leopard Network

Early returns from the collar were hopeful - fresh marmot remains were found at GPS collar clusters & she avoided areas with more people & livestock. After initially moving towards her old home, she turned 180° & headed to Afghanistan & nearly Pakistan.

The was not the only highlight of the day. Prey remains belonged to adult yak, estimated 200-250kg (~5-times the predator!). It turned out to be one of the largest confirmed snow leopard kills in scientific literature: doi.org/10.1080/039493…

Of the corvids, it is perhaps the Magpie that has the closest relationship with the Snow Leopard. It is not a harmonious relationship and, in fact, the Magpie seems to be annoying for these big cats! (3/5)
