I’m currently reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (she/her) for the second time. It’s amazing how HeLa cells were used to innovate in so many scientific disciplines.

Rochelle Riley Thank you so much for sharing this Rochelle! I’m ashamed to say I never knew of Ms. Lack’s amazing story. Proving once again why Black history, American history, is vital to learning.
Sending prayers & healing vibes your way dear lady. ❤️🙏🏻

Imagine the lives that ' children & grandchildren & great-grandchildren might have lived had people known of her contribution to medicine. Wow, they might have been treated like Fords or Rockefellers or Breckenridges, thanked for their ancestor saving the world.

is still an important figure in research.

It's maddening that her family was never compensated and that she is not fully recognized for her contributions and the lives she's saved and will save

I took my Mum to see this last night. I’m not sure the two of us have ever been so stunned into silence. 90 minutes combining so many important themes…
Absolutely cannot recommend this enough.

On the anniversary of her transition, remember that HeLa cells were used for studying the effects of SARS-CoV replication to develop the COVID vaccine.

Rest well, Henrietta Lacks.
