OTD 1940 Whitby's Lifeboat RNLB Mary Ann Hepworth under the command of Cox James Murfield was launched at 4.10pm to the aid of the SS White Toft which was stranded off North Cheek at Robin Hoods Bay in thick fog. The Lifeboat successfully saved the 15 crew landing them at Whitby.

Anyone seen 'The Untold Story' - pictures by Dorothy Hepworth - at Charleston? She was the 3rd member of the love triangle with Stanley Spencer & Patricia Preece (who signed her paintings), which I wrote about in 'The Lovers & the Dustman' - not quite an 'untold story' therefore.
