INS Khukri (P49) was a khukri - class indigenously built corvette. It was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 23 August 1989 and served the navy for 32 years before it was decommissioned 23 December 2021.

Today marks 51 years since the fateful day when INS Khukri was lost at sea during the Indo Pak War of 1971. Abiding to the finest tradition of the Service, Captain Mahendra Nath Mulla did not abandon his men and chose to go down with the ship.

#INSKhukri was a Type 14 (Blackwood-class) frigate of the #IndianNavy . She was sunk off the coast of #Diu , Gujarat, India. This was the first warship sunk in action by a #submarine since #WorldWar II. It remains the post-Independence Indian navy's only warship to be lost in war.

#INSKhukri (F 149), a Blackwood-class Anti-Submarine frigate (modified to suit #Indian requirements) was commissioned with Cdr (later Vice Adm) SH Sarma as her #first Commanding Officer #CO (1/n).

On this day in 1971, INS Khukri was torpedoed and it sank along with 178 sailors and 18 officers.
