is one of many reasons why fixes rarely create the kinds of good-for-society results that techno optimists like to believe they do. Rather than billions of more efficient cars or even EVs, we need FEWER cars and smarter transportation infrastructure.

For a long time I didn’t get why traffic engineers ignored the clear evidence of / (adding more traffic lanes just induces more driving). Then it clicked. It’s human behaviour aka social science. They didnt learn that in school.

Now that the “fuel” costs of electric pickups are much lower, will we see these monstrous aggressors on UK streets?

This is still brilliant.

“It means you spend a lot of money now for a very short-term benefit.'

“I guess for $300 billion we were hoping for something a little more dramatic.”

The problem of too many cars isn’t just about the tailpipe. And altho EVs seemingly address that issue (or “move” it, depending on the electricity source), their increased weight, and the potential increase in size & distance driven (due to ) make EVs “complicated.”

Obviously, electric cars take up the same space as internal combustion vehicles. But here’s the rub —once you understand , you get that electric vehicles may very well lead to MORE cars, MORE driving, LARGER vehicles, and BIGGER consequences. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jevons_pa…

Què tal en si comptes de 168 TWh de demanda (i pujant per ) es fan polítiques perquè aquesta sigui cada cop menor?

Per exemple decréixer l'automoció privada -principal fagocitafor energètic- en comptes de potenciar-la més

20 years of change in the US beef industry according to data from USDA and US EPA. Reducing emissions intensity can mean lowering total GHG emissions. We can do more in the future to⬇️ GHG emissions, improve resiliency, & enhance the advantages of beef (upcycling).

In economics, the occurs when technological progress increases the efficiency with which a resource is used, but the falling cost of use induces increases in demand enough that resource use is increased, rather than reduced
