#LeonoraCarrington (1917 to 2011), a British surrealist who traded her aristocratic upbringing for a bohemian life in Paris before fleeing war-torn Europe in 1942 and settling in Mexico. She stayed there for the remainder of her seven-decade career, painting at least 1,500 works
