Having had some great Barolo but nothing as mature as ‘01 Monprivato, it’s a bit of a revelation. All the austerity normally associated with Barolo just melts into something tertiary and seductive. Tannins still present yet play second fiddle to the beautiful acidity. Shtunnin!

My offering of Bruno Giacosa went down well. I however preferred 2004 Monprivato !

Primer contacto con la 2014 en Barolo. Año complicado, lluvia y granizo, irregular según zona y productor. Lo mejor (como casi siempre) Serralunga. Massolino destaca, Schiavenza enorme RCP, Voerzio Serra de larga guarda. Fino Vajra y rico Brovia. Mal Monprivato, desequilibrado.

2001 Barolo Monprivato Mascarello is one hell of a wine. My best Barolo moment to date. If you are lucky enough to own it , no need to rush.

Safe to say that the head is fragile today. But I have learnt a lot about the Monprivato. And it was a great lesson. That steak though... Wow. Now time for Celtic v Motherwell. A must win game!

Back onto the 1999 Giuseppe Mascarello Monprivato. I had it as oxidised but strangely enough after giving it more air it turned out bloody lovely. Every day is a school day. Very similar profile to the 2000 tasted earlier. What a result. 😜👌 Lucky it didn't go down the sink.
