February 7 is National HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD), which was first observed in 1999. This observance is a day to acknowledge how HIV disproportionately affects Black people.

Black Americans are diagnosed with HIV at a rate 8x higher than white Americans—that’s why I voted NO on the GOP amendment to cut funding for the Minority HIV/AIDS Fund last year.

Congress has to ensure EVERY community has access to the resources they need to beat HIV. #NBHAAD

(1/2) First celebrated in 1999, National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) was organized through grassroots educational efforts to raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS epidemic, especially as it disproportionately impacts Black communities and other communities of color.

If we’re going to end the HIV epidemic, we can’t ignore the impact HIV & AIDS has had on Black communities—that’s why we opposed a GOP effort to cut the Minority HIV/AIDS Fund in 2023.
