Overtime accrues at time and a half, so officers have a high incentive to seek it. Then bc it is required by the CBA, the NYPD has to pay out the individual officers for OT, and when they overspend their budget, go back to the City for additional reimbursement. #NYPDExposed
The PBA outlines specifically how compensation works, when tours of duty occur, and when overtime begins to accrue. Anytime officers work outside of their schedule, they are eligible for overtime hours (see collars for dollars above for how common this is) #NYPDExposed
The City a& Council know this is an issue, and in fact identified OT as one of the key issues in FY20 (council.nyc.gov/budget/wp-cont…), since it was consistently overspent. So they can cap it all they want, but bc of the PBA, if it gets overspent, they have to pay up. #NYPDExposed
