actually i don't need any excuse to talk about geobacter nanowires

so they use these pili-like structures to respire certain metals (e.g iron, uranium), and the biofilm of geobacter species will conduct electrons across the entire film

they even do this with *other species*

if you like nanowires, you'll love myxobacteria, who use chemosensimg to a) form swarms that glide around and create a slimy biofilm they can co-ordinate across b) use this sense to EAVESDROP ON PREY, detecting them and surrounding them before digesting them in an enzyme soup
