#OTD1914 . Phoenix Hotel, Dovercourt on fire. Police Sergeant Bonner who was on duty in Dovercourt spotted the fire and promptly summoned the Fire Brigade. the whole building was like a furnace. Luckily the building was fully insured and was rebuilt.

#OTD1914 . Landlord of the Victoria Hotel@Dovercourt was in court ,William Frederick Whitehead, a naturalised German was accused of sending state secrets to the enemy by carrier pigeons. the case was dismissed as he had good character and was the landlord for 15 years.
