Named after the famous bronze statue, the Colossus of Rhodes. This is due to it being first described from Rhodes, but also the fact that the plant is large & tall, up to 75cm in optimum conditions.

7/4/24 Rhodes - Anacamptis sancta, what a beauty! We passed 50 #orchid species for the Mariposa Nature Tours #OrchidsOfRhodes tour earlier this week and we’re still adding more going into the afternoon of our final day. It’s been a pleasure leading a happy group alongside Jon Dunn 🇺🇦
3/4/24 Rhodes - This little jewel caught my eye on Profitis Ilias; Tempsky's Romulea (Romulea tempskyana). A little-known species with a narrow range, it is scattered through the Eastern Mediterranean. Seen co-leading the Mariposa Nature Tours #OrchidsOfRhodes tour with Jon Dunn 🇺🇦
