DriveBC Just did the section from Port Alberni to Duncan in 3 hours. Not as bad as we thought. Dusty for sure, be courteous to faster cars unlike this camper, road is wide gravel and then turns into a single bumpy paved lane and then back to gravel. Very doable but only if essential!

NEW - Highway 4 to Port Alberni/Tofino will re-open to single lane traffic June 23, but not re-open fully until 'mid-July' says the provincial government.
Hwy 4 has been closed June 6 due to a nearby wildfire and the area around it remains unstable + unsafe.

There's a not so fun detour but not fun at all.
It's also the main road to Tofino and Ucluelet (main beach tourist destinations in the summer.)
Now hillside compromised too. You can see why it's closed.
