It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of retired #K9Officer Max. PO William Comerro took him on as a narcotics scent K9 in July '08. He graduated from NJSP - State Police K9 course in 2008 & served as one of the first K9s in a new program at the University Police Dept. #RIPK9Max

Heartbroken to hear that K9 Max, of the Lake Wales Police Department, was shot and killed yesterday by a violent criminal.

My thoughts are with the entire department, especially Max’s handler, Officer Joyner, as they mourn their beloved partner.

Max retired in 2016 and became a continued friend at home to the Comerro family. Sadly, Max has passed away and the University Police Department will mark his passing with a month of mourning and by retiring Max’s badge number as a sworn member of the agency. #RIPK9Max

Max assisted in investigations well beyond campus in Essex, Passaic and Somerset Counties, with the FBI and ATF. He was a beloved fixture on campus and in classrooms throughout the State, educating children on the duties of a working dog in law enforcement. #RIPK9Max
