A half hidden headstone with the familiar IHS motif and some foliage carved around the top marks the death of Elizabeth Paton

I've had a mad few days so have been neglecting our daily #RandomScottishGravestones .
It's quite easy to miss this lovely little memorial in the wall. You can see an archway, an angel and two coffins/open graves

The symbol of the merchants guild, a 4 above an M is just about visible on this headstone for David Wood and his wives and children. There's also the common winged soul and mortality symbols; hourglass, skull and crossed bones

Another pic from our #CrieffRoadTrip last autumn. We love this one, and we'd love to know more about the markings if anyone has any info... #RandomScottishGravestones

Difference in just over a century in this stone in particular was probably the most stark. Apart from the two swirls, you would never guess that this sandstone wall block once displayed such incredibly artistry.
West Graveyard, Prestonpans (c1907/2019)

We're not sure who lies here, but hopefully that question will soon be answered - two of our intrepid volunteers are undertaking a survey to check who's buried where and get photos of all the headstones. We're very much looking forward to the results! #RandomScottishGravestones
#RandomScottishGravestones this one is in the castle semple collegiate Church Lochwinnoch....founded I 1504 by Lord Semple
Another nice graveyard picture this morning - we're not sure if this is a very small grave marker (perhaps for ashes?) or a very fancy lair marker. What say you, Robert M Ross Scottish Graveyards? #MementoMoriMonday #RandomScottishGravestones
Day 6 of #RandomScottishGravestones .
The grave of Elizabeth Rankine and 'her attached friend', Catherine Halkerstone.
Abernethy Kirkyard, Perthshire.
Day 5 of #RandomScottishGravestones (who said they had to be consecutive days?)

Day 4 of #RandomScottishGravestones - the grave of James 'Purlie' Wilson, convicted of treason in the 1820 Radical War/Scottish Insurrection, and hanged and beheaded in front of a crowd of 20,000. James is buried at Strathaven Cemetery.

#RandomScottishGravestones thereโs some beautiful stones in the graveyard at Arbirlot church near Arbroath in Angus. Well worth a visit.
Robert M Ross Dr David Mitchell An incredible, and unexpectedly colourful, survivor! There's an almost identical iron marker in Duddingston Kirkyard. Very interesting indeed to see how it might once have displayed the names of those that lie below.
