Ok, day 7 of #RealCarersWeek and I hope you'll forgive me a personal one. My daughter's epilepsy (caused by 2 rare genetic conditions) is presently out of control. As much as I know SUDEP is rare, it leaks into my head in the early hours when cradling my gorgeous girl

#RealCarersWeek starts off with my boys having a dance with my dog. You’d never think we’d been up since 6 with someone shouting for his Dad!

Today I am for day procedure.
I should be spending more time in recovery than expected, but I have to get back to caring for my son asap!
Care plan tweaked to allow this to happen, as safely as possible.
My procedure is vital for my health. 🙏
#CarersWeek #RealCarersWeek Some meds that we give daily. Some are controlled drugs. Titrated. The injections are for a portacath. District & hospital nurses don't have this training. #UnpaidCarers are highly skilled #IAmNotEconomicallyInactive . I save the govt 100's of 1000's.

There are many charities who help carers/ families of children with life limiting illnesses & Little Blue Heroes Foundation are one such charity. Here is a photo of Shane, Jack’s Garda buddy who recently dropped in to say hi & our lovely nurses came in for a photo too!

It’s #CarersWeek in the UK; next week here in Ireland. aka: #RealCarersWeek
I want to highlight what happens when the long-term caring role ends after many years. The carer is left with no career, income, savings or pension; now aged, physically & emotionally broken. Then what?
I’m a carer. This is our local park. I’m not angered by it. It makes me laugh. It was put there by well meaning people, but 2 years on, it’s underfunded, unsupported and only the strongest few flowers thrive. The rest of us are lost in the long grass. #RealCarersWeek

Last day. Just want to say how helpful it is when people with disabilities are considered. Easy access, beach wheelchair along with a changingplaces.ie makes life so much easier & more enjoyable. Access For All Ireland A day in my wheels #inclusion
My bio says it all really!
I work unpaid round the clock.
This is my job.
I do not volunteer.
I love my son, and my commitment to him is until death.
This does not mean I wouldn't welcome a little respite now and again.
My tired, is tired 🙇🏼♀️

I spoke at a House of Commons debate on the challenges facing unpaid carers for #CarersWeek .
The debate was an opportunity to offer carers more than just recognition. But the Government is choosing apathy over action. Carers are fed up with warm words.

I'm not sure if many young carers in Scotland will be aware of this. But if you have a Young Carer Package linked to your Young Scot card then log into your account and you should be able to claim your £50 Tesco voucher - Every little helps😅

So tired of repeating myself over and over again to prevent actual harm to my loved one. It's easy enough to care for him if you listen and follow the rules.
After a day of caring alone, discovered at 8:40pm that son needed a shower & his sling and wheelchair cushions washed. Much hoisting and physical effort needed.
I rarely mention this side of life but too many think carers just drink tea & assist with shopping. #RealCarersWeek
