Lesson 1: 11 Zones is not enough.

Sonic Superstars only has 11 main Zones, as well as Last Story. Depending on how you count things, there are 23 actual Acts in SS. SMBW conveniently has triple that in regular Courses alone, at an incredible 69.

SMBW's style works with a 'flat' look and fixed perspective. Normal mapping on background objects allows for an illusion of depth. The colors can pop more thanks to these choices. Sonic should take a surrealist spin on this method!

In all seriousness, the Classic Sonic comics feature characters speaking with actual dialogue. SMBW features characters speaking with actual dialogue. Use dialogue, SEGA! We like it when these characters speak! We just hate the voice direction sometimes! OK? OK.

Lesson 4: Tune the tunes!

SMBW has a consistent soundtrack built on modern, digital synthesizers to create a variety of jams.

Just...let Tee Lopes and Rintaro Soma cook. Jun Senoue can perform on guitar, but he should not be the sound director. He failed miserably on SS.

I thought about the propeller mushroom being used as a glider, where Mario or Luigi use it mid-air then they do the gliding animation seen in SMBW.
