I am proud to introduce our newest community program: SafeSpaces! Last year, I created SafeSummers which provided full time programming for District8 children.

With its success, my goal was to continue providing after school programming during the school year. We did it!

I spoke with GMA3: What You Need To Know to discuss the impact SafeSummers is having on our South Dade community. My office created SafeSummers & invested $250K for one reason: to help guide our youth & get them off the street. Camp Judah is one example of the wonderful kids we are able to help.

Our number one priority across our state is keeping kids safe during out of school time.

I was proud to shine a positive light on South Dade & our #SafeSummers program in an interview with Good Morning America When we created #SafeSummers , we set out to get our kids off the street, provide full-time summer programming & reduce violence. 400 South Dade kids are having a safe summer

What can we do to reduce violence in our community? We put our money where our mouth is & create a program to take youth off the street. I am proud to introduce #SafeSummers , a D8 initiative that will grant qualifying CBOs funds to pay for summer programming for at-risk youth.

I loved meeting with South Dade SafeSummers campers & Fit2Lead interns in D8. In addition to meeting these great kids, I also met a mom who was thankful that we sponsored her daughter for full-time summer programming. An investment in our children is an investment in our future.
