The singers and their director Sofia Söderberg travelled from Sweden for the festival and provided an unforgettable experience

2 May 1859, the official opening of the Royal Albert Bridge, Saltash took place. The ceremony was performed by Prince Albert with an audience of thousands. There was a celebration ball in Plymouth in the evening.

On this day in 1859, the Royal Albert Bridge, a railway bridge spanning the Tamar River at Saltash, was officially opened by Prince Albert. 🌉

At 667 metres long, it was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

I K Brunel's Grade I listed Royal Albert Bridge opened #OnThisDay 1859 over the Tamar, Saltash. IK Brunel's chief assistant Robert Pearson Brereton. supervised much of the construction and represented Brunel at the opening due to his ill health.
