Queens residents standing up & saying no more to reckless drivers who have taken the lives of too many of our neighbors, too many children. An array of organizations & electeds from across our borough joined together to say no more.
We need to control our own streets #SammysLaw
For Sammy. For Allison. For Asif. For Maddie. For Doniqueca. For the thousands of lives cut short from traffic violence on NYCโs streets. #SammysLaw
I knew today would be a great day when David Byrne rode past me on 8th Avenue.
It would be even better if the assembly passed #SammysLaw .
#SammysLaw would allow NYC to set its own speed limits so we can lower it to 20 mph. The NY Senate's passed it, and the governor will it.
I just called Speaker Heastie asking to put Sammy's Law (A7266) to an Assembly vote. Can you ask too?

#SammysLaw allows a street that safe to exist in New York
It doesn't require it, it doesn't impose it, it just allows it - like the vast majority of states do

#SammysLaw - assuming all goes as planned, will NYC's 20 mph speed limit be 20, or 20 + 10?
And will all streets be 20 or less, or will many remain 25 (+10)?

Everyone should be safe on our streets. We stood together today for those weโve lost to traffic violence, and to put an end to this scourge, for our childrenโs sake.
In Bayron Palomino Arroyoโs name and in the name of all weโve lost, letโs pass #SammysLaw ASAP.
