That which I say now, is not spoken by me…

“the massiveness and vision and velocity of thought” of Mandelstam’s original ‘The Horseshoe Finder’ is captured in @SashaDugdale ’s translation, says Andrew Khan in PN Review

'Anyone who studies languages knows that we are all associative learners, our language is composed of moments and contexts and built as a verbal accumulation of these moments: a family's history, its abuses, culture, crimes, proverbs eccentricities.'

This morning, @SashaDugdale asked the participants in her poetry translation workshop to transcribe a recording of a song thrush. Here are some of the results!

Just (belatedly) read this, or rather lived in it, while having covid. A remarkable memoir, or perhaps meta-memoir - a beautiful epic, a memoir like shattered glass. Thank you to the brilliant @SashaDugdale for translating it and to Fitzcarraldo Editions for publishing it.

I finished In Memory of Memory by Maria Stepanova today, a memoir (although is that the word?) translated from the Russian by @SashaDugdale. It’s not perfect (a good thing…nothing should be), maybe overly long, but still tremendous and the translation is a marvel. (1/2)

Day 26 of @SashaDugdale recommends Leeanne Quinn’s 'Some Lives' (Dedalus Press).

'The book's language is clear and sonorous as a bell. It's a beautiful read– the language is so precise and pure– you’ll want to return to it many times.'
