Interesting discussions & article. As an adult I know I don't absorb info from a screen as well as paper nor interact with it the same way. 15yr/o hates that GCSE music composition is expected on Sibelius. She composes with pencil & paper & then transfers as that works for her!

The cries of 16 flying swans led Sibelius to write about it in his diary -'.......Nature's mystery & life's melancholy! The Fifth Symphony's finale theme'

No such thing as petty nationalism. Our small nations are the foundational units of European civilization. Dvorak, Sibelius, Boradin, and Tchaikovsky were all nationalists and local folk music was the bedrock of their greatest symphonies.

Sibelius suite from his incidental music to King Christian II. Gorgeous transparency and glowing tone from the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra under Shuntaro Sato. Classy stuff.

Maybe one of the silliest musical statements ever made. Sibelius went his wonderful direction but he was not with out fundamentals or a precision demanded of Bach's he was not a dwarf standing on solders of giants, but a giant standing letting giants whisper in his ear...

Matt Flaibbi 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌱 Anthony Princiotti In spite of that, which I have no argument with, I still don't understand why, coming across a condescending opinion of his on Sibelius, or jazz, or popular culture, I should give it any credence. My own opinions on those are beside the point, but I probably disagree with him.
