HB 114, the anti-rescue bill in response to the Smithfield Trial verdict, just passed the Utah House with an overwhelming vote in favor, including most Democrats in favor. Depressing.

This is wild. Utah prosecutors charged animal activists who rescued dying piglets with felonies. In the #SmithfieldTrial , the jury acquitted them.

So Utah politicians are banning the legal defense the activists used. Their bill just passed the key Senate Committee.

Amazing how tone-deaf these as animal ag apologies are; it's like Von Christiansen comparing a dying piglet to a dented can at the supermarket at the Smithfield Trial. But they're actually advancing justice, because normal people will instantly spot the absurdity.

This has echoes of the Smithfield Trial where the powerful meat industry tried to keep their horrors a secret - defendants were not allowed to mention animal welfare or the terrible conditions of the animals which led to the rescue
