We're celebrating today's eclipse with one of the sun's microscopic counterparts! This dazzling marine microbe is a 'ciliate,' a group of protozoans with ~8,000 species. The glowing rays around it are cilia, hair-like strands it uses to move and gather food. #SmithsonianEclipse
