I was nervous about the writing sample I used for PhD apps because it doesn't read like a 'traditional' paper.
Anyway, I got into two PhD programs and I just received notice that I won a graduate student paper award.
Imma stop doubting myself.

B/c it's on my heart: next week I graduate w/ my (2nd) Master's degree. In a few months, I start a PhD program. These are both milestones that I'm v grateful for. Yet, both pale in significance to the milestone of achieving sustained sobriety. That shit was HARD. #soberscholar
Idk when, but I have faith that the day will come when a queer Chicano student who doesn't know how the fuck to stop will come across my scholarship or a class I'm teaching and will see themselves in me, and will know that there's a way out. #soberscholar
Today a friend I met in treatment about 4 years ago (who I've stayed connected with) called me to ask if I knew of any good articles/books related to the topic of this research paper he's writing. I love seeing us thrive. #SoberScholar
I'm still waiting to hear from many programs, but with my first acceptance letter received, I can confidently say that I *will* be in a PhD program this fall, studying issues around queer Chicanx/Latinx sobriety.
