The original #SolutionsNotSuspensions bill offers the necessary protections for students of color and students with disabilities across NY, who have been criminalized in schools for too long.
The legislature should pass the Assembly version of the bill and enact it into law.
The NYS Senate introduced a weakened version of our #SolutionsNotSuspensions bill that would allow racist policies to continue to suspend us Black + Brown students.
We urge all legislators to vote NO on this bill!

Holding out for Real #SolutionsNotSuspensions bc how do we know that judgements of 'rowdy and insubordinate' won't reflect #ImplicitBias and lack of training on how #disabilities manifest?
We can't prepare and educate young people when they're excluded from school. New York must take steps to advance restorative practices and ensure suspensions are only used as a last resort. Join me in urging NYS to pass the #SolutionsNotSuspensions Act! actionnetwork.org/letters/new-yo…

We are here in Albany to demand it does NOT pass the current version of the Senate’s #SolutionsNotSuspensions Act which guts our original bill and makes too many exceptions to suspend students which will continue disproportionately harming us students of color.
A student on LI was suspended for more than 6 months in 2019, losing valuable learning time & falling behind his peers. This is unacceptable & why we must pass #SolutionsNotSuspensions now, which'll cut the max length of suspensions from 180 to 20 days.

It’s time to pass the #SolutionsNotSuspensions Act to ensure that our students education isnt put at risk from inequitable and ineffective suspensions. This bill requires schools to use proven alternatives to suspensions, which promote accountability but keep our kids in school.
There is one week left to the 2023 legislative session. Carl E. Heastie, Sen. Stewart-Cousins, Assembly Majority, NYS Senate Democrats- it's time to pass #SolutionsNotSuspensions for our young people! We've waited for 8 years. Pass this bill in its entirety.
We don't want a watered down bill that furthers #CriminalizationNotCare
